I Cannot Make This Stuff Up - No BULL !!!!
I like talking with people that I meet in airports and on airplanes. I never know when I will meet a potential client (The Miracle of the Middle Seat), find someone who has read my book (yes, yesterday a complete stranger told me his firm has a dozen copies of "Some Assembly Required: A Networking Guide for Women" as part of his firm's women's initiative), learn about a niche business, or just hear a work related story that makes me giggle in the core of my soul. Yesterday I flew to Dallas to g

Parenthood III
Click here to read part 1 and part 2. Parenthood Continued An ambulance waited for us we we landed at Luv Field in Dallas. Darkness had set in and the weather was just as miserable only it wasn't quite icy enough for the moisture leaking from the sky to be ice. In a icy drizzle, I watched them move my son from the plane to the waiting ambulance. There wasn't enough room in the back for me so I rode shotgun with the driver as we made our way across Dallas's rain slick streets. Only a few m

ATB: Memo to Arizona Players - Time and Score, Gents
As usual, we’ll start with some news from today… The nation’s #1 shooting guard, Xavier Henry, announced to the world on Sportscenter during the 24HoCH that he will attend Memphis next season. His brother, CJ Henry, is already a Tiger. This is very good news to Calipari, who watched his team clank three after three last night (2-19) in their game against UMass, because Henry’s range easily extends out to 22 feet. Additionally, it shows that for elite guard prospects, Memphis has become the NB

UFO Reports: Evidence of Green Fireballs and the start of Project Twinkle
At exactly midnight on September 18, 1954, my telephone rang. It was Jim Phalen, a pal of mine from the Long Beach Press-Telegram, and he had a "good flying saucer report," hot off the wires. He read it to me. The guide line was: "Thousands of people saw a huge fireball light up dark New Mexico skies tonight." The story went on to tell about how a "blinding green" fireball the size of a full moon had silently streaked southeast across Colorado and northern New Mexico at eight-forty that night

Argentina Vetoes Law To Protect Glaciers, Favors Mining Projectsv

Last Friday, Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner vetoed a law that protected the country’s glaciers and that could have restricted mining and oil drilling. The law had been approved last month and according to Reuters and other media outlets, it was in conflict with gold mining giant Barrick Gold Corp and its Pascua Lama project, which seeks to extract gold from th

Wet Hop Analysis
You know how I spent a great deal of time investigating the nature of the wet hop earlier this year, surmising that some of the constituents of the hop cone affect flavor in out-sized proportion when added wet to the boil? Well, based on two years of data collection and 15 beers with known hop varieties, I have discovered ... nothing.Well, not quite nothing. I lined up every hop used in these beers (9 of them) and looked to look which ones with the "decomposition note" had various constituent e

The Poker MBA: Winning in Business No Matter What Cards You’re Dealt: Greg Dinkin, Jeffrey Gitomer
Editorial Reviews Thanks to the tune and movie by Kenny “The Gambler” Rogers, most of us now understand that “you’ve got to know when to hold ‘em and know when to fold ‘em.” This axiom can be applied around a conference table as well as a card table. In The Poker MBA, Jeffrey Gitomer and Greg Dinkin take this concept to the extreme by drawing a world of business advice from the popular pastime. “There is no better training ground for business than a poker game, where your ability to measure

Monday’s Writers of the Web
Image by KmountMan via Flickr Monday once again, yes that one day that means a fresh start to a new week of prospects and possibilities. At least that is how I have been trying to look at it lately. This feat is not always easy though because Monday has such a bad reputation. The one advantage I have, is my Monday’s Writers of the Web series. Last week, I was slacking, and took advantage of the bad weather, and power outages. Sounded like a good excuse at the time, but caused me a
